Her First Birthday Cake Smash Session

It's my party and I laugh if I want to. Apparently, that was this little sunshine's motto for this session. You should have been there - it was the cutest thing!
When her mom – and my very good friend – asked me to come back out to IL to take her daughters one year old photos, I was super excited. I didn’t just love having them in front of my lens again, but it also gave me an excuse to go back to the Chicago land area and spend time with some of the people we left behind, after we moved to the south. It’s always special to me when I get to go on destination sessions. But this family is near to my heart. We’ve known each other since before they were able to call themselves parents. So going through all the life seasons together, and even better, capturing all the life seasons, means a ton to me.

For this first birthday session + cake smash session, we met at Lords Park in Elgin. I really like this location, since it has so much variety. We had a covered porch, brick walls and a park. Just beautiful! Anyone who lived in the mid west knows, that the weather can be unpredictable. Especially in the middle of December. It ended up being pretty cold, but with a quick car-warm-up-break and some blankets this little rock star here smiled through it all! But see for yourself!
